Questions & Answers

For Hamingja members the initial consultation is free. A therapy session costs $80. How many sessions you’ll need varies a lot – see question further down this page.

Between 45 to 60 minutes.

Therapy is highly individualized and there’s no one-size-fits-all when it comes to the amount of sessions needed. It depends on several factors – the individual, the nature of their concerns, their situation, their goals etc. Counseling is about helping people, and you cannot apply a precise formula. You can however take an active role in determining how many sessions are needed, depending on your goals.

Yes, research shows that online therapy can be as effective as traditional in-person therapy for a variety of mental health concerns. This is because online video sessions allow you to have all the same benefits of traditional therapy, like a safe and confidential space to talk to a qualified mental health professional from the comfort and convenience of your home.

Find a quiet, private space in your home where you won’t be interrupted by anyone. Make sure you have reliable access to the Internet connection and a device with a camera and microphone. If you are using a laptop or desktop, use headphones for increased privacy. If possible, make a list of topics you want to discuss and write down any questions you have for your therapist beforehand.

It’s normal to feel awkward or anxious the first time you try teletherapy, and it does get easier once you get started. If video feels like too much, you and your therapist can talk over the phone the first time, and take it from there.
